The Gun Room is a newly converted cottage which is one of only three houses on this sandy promontory of the Inland Sea which separates Anglesey from Ynys Cybi (Holy Island). It's accessed along a gated private track alongside the beach and there's a real sense of wilderness and peace once you arrive. And, of course, that special quality of light you find in remote places on west coasts. The sense of adventure that builds as you take note of the tides and cross the beach to get to the house only adds to the experience.
The sands outside stretch all the way along the inland sea in one direction and in the other direction, the beach stretches all the way to Rhosneigr, a beautiful over the beach with some great eateries and a relaxed surfing vibe. Lladron Crigyll (the Crigyll Pirates) used to lure ships to their doom on this wild beach and plunder the spoils; its a bit more civilised these days although the ship's wheel in the sitting room is from the clipper Norman Court, wrecked on the beach in 1883.
From the outside the Gun Room is a pretty and inviting whitewashed cottage. Inside the interior has been stylishly renovated to bring it right up date with lovely nautical touches and everything you would expect from a home away from home .The front door leads through to the open plan living space with beautifully designed window seats look out to sea and an atmospheric wood burning stove takes care of colder evenings. Upstairs there are two lovely bedrooms and a stylish new shower room with stand alone bath. There's plenty of parking outside and also a garden area with dining furniture, sheltered in the lee of the cottage. Or take a barbeque on to the beach to watch the sun set over your own slice of paradise.
