Handsome former captains house in Chwilog on the Llyn
Gwynle was built in the C19th for a local ship's captain at a time when many on the south coast of the Llyn Peninsula made their living on the sea. By now, its been transformed to a welcoming, but still slightly grand, holiday house for a group of 10. Set back off the road through the village, there is plenty of parking out front. Enter into the hallway and the orginal staircases sweep up to the floor above. On this first floor you'll find the main reception rooms- a cosy sitting room with woodburning stove a very spacious open plan kitchen and dining room and a wonderful conservatory looking over the summer house in the rear garden. The dining room also has a warming wood burner and the granite and wood kitchen opposite is a delight. Keep going and you'll find the utility rooms and ground floor WC as well as the fun games room with its clever revolving table giving plenty of game options for even the lowest boredom threshold!
Follow the sweeping staircase upstairs and you'll find three bedrooms on the first floor with the fourth bedroom on the 2nd floor. This also has a sofa bed in the lower part of the room and with a shower room on the same floor, makes a great family suite (the sofa bed is only suitable for children). There is also a beautiful marble family bathroom on the first floor.
The village of Chwilog is quiet and serene and much more peacful than the hustle and bustle of nearby Abersoch or even Criccieth which is just down the coast. Village life is just how it always has been and the sounds of the male voice choir practicing in the village hall opposite is still a highlight. Be sure to try the village's award winning community pub which is less than a hundred yards away, The Madryn. You'll be sure of a warm welcome and a good meal.
As a base for travelling around the area, Gwynle is ideal. Eryri (Snowdonia) is 20 minute away to the east and the whole of the Llyn Peninsula with its acclaimed beaches and coastline is on your doorstep. Criccieth is a few minutes drive and has a great beach, a famous castle and a wide range of good pubs and restaurants including Dylan's on the beach
