Easter woodland walks in North Wales

Easter is a time of transformation. As the crisp winter air begins to fade, woodlands and fields burst into life – flowers begin to bloom, birdsong fills the air and a sense of a new beginning flows.

Luckily for us in North Wales, this also means that it’s the perfect time to pull on your walking shoes (and maybe a waterproof jacket!) and explore some truly beautiful woodland trails.

Here are three of our most enchanting favourites:

Newborough Forest, Anglesey

Newborough National Nature Reserve and Forest on Anglesey are a firm favourite with visitors – and it’s no wonder why. It’s particularly special as it’s a walk that welcomes you to enjoy stunning views of mountains, forest and the beach (not to mention the sand dunes), all in one fell swoop.

For wildlife lovers, Newborough Forest is well-known as a stronghold for illusive red squirrels. Make sure to stop by Llyn Parc Mawr, where you’ll find picnic benches and feeders – giving you an extra chance to see these extraordinary creatures in their natural habitat.

Coed y Brenin, Eryri

A forest made for adventure. Known for its exhilarating mountain bike trails, Coed y Brenin also boasts a network of walking routes that take you deep into its enchanting centre. Follow the Afon Mawddach river as it tumbles over rocky ledges, cross wooden bridges over cascading waterfalls, and take in the breathtaking views from the higher trails.

Fairy Glen, Betws-y-Coed

Tucked away near the ever-popular village of Betws-y-Coed, Fairy Glen is a hidden wonderland of twisting trees, moss-clad rocks, and a tumbling river that carves its way through a narrow gorge.

Appropriately suited to its name, it’s a place that feels straight out of a storybook – especially in early spring, when the woodland floor starts to bloom, and the water glows . This short but magical walk is ideal for families not looking to go too far, whilst still enjoying something that feels quite magical.

With all that said, all that’s left is to get outside and embark on your next adventure. Where will your Easter wanderings take you? Explore our boltholes and find your next escape.
