May time
May is the month of bluebells, zingy spring green and bank holidays. And this year, we have an extra day’s holiday to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
This is the time when the countryside wakes up fully after the long winter months. Delicate blossom abounds on fruit trees, in the hedgerows and verges and along the coastal path. Spot big bumblebees buzzing from flower to flower, their stripy bodies dusted with pollen. Birds are nesting, and some are already feeding their tufty headed young. And of course, there are bluebells carpeting woodland and shady paths which never fail to delight.
April has been remarkably dry here in North Wales, the skies blue with big pillowy clouds drifting along, blown by spring winds with a chilly edge. Perfect for walking, exploring and beach time, armed with warm jumpers and stops off at cafes for hot drinks and cake. And the forecast, certainly for early May, looks promising.
The Easter holidays are over, and children are back at school for their summer term, making May a quiet time to visit this corner of North Wales if you are not shackled to school runs and homework. Book a mid-week break or a weekend away and enjoy the spring sunshine.
