A timeless farmhouse surrounded by nature.
Back

Brithdir Mawr is hidden in gently rolling, wooded countryside. Quiet twisting lanes banked by high hedgerows lead to the peace of this place where guests can come back to themselves, regenerate, relax and reconnect with nature. This is a place to unwind, surrounded by birds, bees and trees and enveloped in a warm Welsh welcome. It feels remote and undiscovered, but it’s perfectly positioned for beaches or mountains - Ynys Môn (Anglesey) is only 10 minutes away over the Brittania Bridge and Eryri (Snowdonia), which dominates the views, is 10 minutes away to the south. Brithdir Mawr was the original farmhouse on what is now a small, eco-boutique glamping retreat, Cae Lal.

Full Description

The ethos is peace and quiet, wellness and regeneration and the owners, who live next door, have created a space for guests and nature to thrive side by side. Native trees have been planted, marshland preserved, and meadows cultivated. The marshy areas attract frogs, wetland birds such as snipes and heron; dragonflies and butterflies are plentiful; the woodlands are home to various woodland birds such as barn owls, finches and nuthatches. There’s a badger set here, and you might even spot a stoat or brown hare. Holistic therapies including massages and reiki are available on site, in the cosy treatment cabin, down in the secluded meadow. Brithdir Mawr guests are also welcome to wander the paths and the fairy-tale solar-lit path, as well as the use of the communal facilities. The same ethos and care is evident in the old farmhouse - oak beams have been cleaned, slate flooring exposed and original floorboards refined. The kitchen and dining/sitting area is modern and functional but retains
character through the use of locally sourced and upcycled furniture and furnishings and the bathrooms are fresh and stylish. Welsh woollen blankets and carefully curated pieces of furniture add to the sense of calm and wellbeing. The garden is a perfect suntrap on warmer days but the wood burning stove in the cosy sitting room ensures the farmhouse functions just as well on cold winter evenings. The bedrooms are spacious and both main bedrooms have ensuite facilities. Younger children will love the cabin bed in mum and dad's bedroom, while the day bed in the third bedroom creates a further useful sleeping arrangement.

Things to do

"A truly spectacular “experience” - this wasn’t just somewhere to sleep, it felt like a home from home. The home was pristinely clean, well presented, and had all the things needed to truly relax both inside and outside the home. This trip was a mixture of working remotely and a mini break - the setting was simply stunning with the snowy tipped mountains in the background with calming star lit skies free from light pollution. My host, Bethan, went above and beyond to make my stay exactly as you’d hope it would be. I cannot fault the details given, recommendations and reactiveness when I needed help. Leo, my dog, had the best stay - making friends with Dotty as they followed each other around the great open space the property boasts. I would highly recommend this location, the host and the listings accuracy! Thank you! Hope to see you again as Leo and I continue our adventures around the UK ❤️"
"This is a splendidly located cottage for anyone wanting to walk in Snowdonia. It was well equipped with two very comfortable en-suite double bedrooms and a decent sized single. I would definitely return."
"Brithdir Mawr is a fabulous newly refurbished cottage set in such a beautiful and peaceful location. The hosts Bethan and Jacob are so welcoming and their knowledge of the local area is fantastic. The cottage is very tastefully decorated and furnished with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The hamper of Welsh food treats provided was very generous and we certainly enjoyed the contents. The cottage is situated on the glamping and camping site which Bethan and Jacob have developed into a wonderful eco friendly site with exceptional facilities. There are plenty of beautiful places and historical towns and castles to visit within a short driving time of the property. During our stay we visited Newborough Beach on Anglesey, climbed Snowdon, explored Conwy, Harlech Castle, Caernarfon Castle, Ffestiniog railway and the Swallow Falls and Ugly House Tearoom ( delicious cakes) at Betws-y-Coed. There are plenty of good restaurants and takeaways in the locality and Tesco 5 mins away."
