A treat of a retreat on the private country Plas Madoc Estate – gather the gang for walks, woodlands, sublime scenery and complete peace.

Full Description

Sweep up the drive to the magical and historic, newly renovated and pet free Plas Madoc Coach House.

Plas Madoc Estate and ancient woodland is on the eastern side of the Conwy Valley. The Estate is shaped by more than six centuries of history with the most remarkable transformation in the late nineteenth century when Colonel John Higson, a Manchester mining engineer with a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and landscape, rebuilt the estate as a grand Arts and Crafts residence. The landscape that survives today owes much to the artistic ideals of that era and may have been influenced by the work of Edward Milner, the celebrated landscape designer who worked nearby at Bodnant. The sweeping lawns, meandering woodland belts and carefully positioned trees were planned to sit gently within the contours of the valley, and many of these trees still provide structure, shade and a sense of continuity. Walks around the grounds follow the very lines that Victorian designers shaped, from the curve of the old drive to the broad terrace where the house once stood.

Overlooking the mesmerising Conwy valley is the Coach House. Being here feels out of this world, it’s just you and wild nature.Interiors celebrate gatherings with soft colours, crafted furniture, paintings and bags of space to spread out and unwind.
Enter a light-filled vast entrance with a quiet nod to the former Coach House. From here, the open dining space feels cosy and welcoming with underfloor heating and a wood-burner. Hole up here on chilly days and you’ll find plenty of board games and books along with logs for the fire. The living room has vast views, and the enormous sofa is perfect for sociable lolling.
Bedrooms, all on the first floor are hugely comfortable with ensuite showers and soaps and lotions. A super king room (can be made as twins) is bright and calm with botanical prints and crisp white bedding and views. The ensuite has a bath and shower over.
Across the landing another roomy bedroom with large bedside lamps, thick curtains and plentiful cushions on well-dressed king bed. The ensuite bathroom is pristine – you’ll feel like you’re staying in a smart hotel.
The calming family bedroom is accessed via the playroom and has fine oak beams, twin beds and a sumptuous king bed. A handy ensuite is perfectly placed.
With rustic looking floors and great games on offer, the playroom is the place to be. Play ping pong on the multi-games table. That super huge TV will mesmerise even the adults
A sociable kitchen is at the heart of the house with lots of counter space and all the kit you’ll need. There’s a large breakfast bar with stools for keeping any eye on the prep (with a drink). Eat seasonal and local food! Pop into the local butcher at Conwy (you get a discount) for temptation and stocking up. Large French windows lead onto the terrace so spill out to the garden, warm up in the hot tub and soak it all up. With another huge table for al fresco meals, a built-in barbecue, the greenest lawns (once a tennis court) and far-reaching views over stunning countryside – open a glass of something chilled from the outside fridge while children charge about safely.
The Big Green Egg is amazing for sizzling, summer suppers and with a a pizza oven, who needs to be indoors! There’s even a raised bed garden space and potting shed. For pick your own vegetables (depending on seasonality).

Walk endless paths through the quiet woods and stomp back to light that BBQ, try out some locally-brewed beers and watch the night skies for a spectacular starry display on a clear night.

Things to do

"We had a lovely stay here. The views were so beautiful and it was so peaceful just hearing the birds chirping away. We didn't get to use the hot tub as the weather turned ugly but we were definitely cosy in the house though. Had fun playing pool and just enjoyed relaxing. It's also a good place to get views of planes flying through the valley!! Cath was a lovely host and kept in touch with us in case we needed anything. We will definitely be back to stay again ☺️"

"Amazing! Such a beautiful home from home - the photos do not do it justice! Our boys loved the space and the games room. Great location, great hosts, the perfect getaway."

"We stayed at Plas Madoc Coach House near Llanrwst in early January. Although the property accommodates 8 there were just two of us. We usually end up staying in properties for 6 or 8 people because of the space and often the higher spec. This didn't disappoint. In fact it is without doubt the nicest property we have stayed in and we have stayed in many nice houses. The grounds are fantastic to walk around, even in January. The views are spectacular. The accommodation is very spacious and very comfortable. Each bedroom has superb ensuite facilities with top hotel style toiletries provided. The kitchen is fabulous and is equipped with everything you could possibly need. The games room which includes a full size pool table is also very comfortable to sit in to watch the extra large TV. It was a treat to sit in the large dining room after a meal in front of the log fire with a book or just to chat and stare out at the views. And just as relaxing to go through to the lounge, to lounge in front of the TV there. We didn't get to use the external cooking facilities due to the weather but the hot tub was made good use of. The hosts were most friendly and extremely helpful. On arrival we found a very generous welcome pack of bread, butter, biscuits, honey (from the hives on the property), Bara brith, milk, sausages and bacon! The kitchen was supplied with tea, coffee, sugar, salt and pepper, cooking oil, foil, cling film. We have stayed in nice places where none of these items were provided. An unlimited supply of logs for the fire was also provided, as opposed to the limited "starter pack" that many others provide. This stunning property and the attention to detail that the owners have gone out of their way to provide ought to be the standard that others strive for. We would recommend it (and have to friends) with no hesitation."
