Q&A with Sean Taylor, Founder of Zip World

Sean Taylor is the founder of Zip World, who have four sites with incredible outdoor adventure parks across North Wales and England.

Sean opened Zip World in 2013 with 8 employees, running the fastest zip line in the world from a portable cabin. Five years later, the Zip World family has grown to over 350 employees, operating on a variety of unique adventures across three stunning locations in North Wales.

Q: Can you tell us about your background and how you founded Zip World?

A: Sure! I’m Sean, and I’m originally from Conwy Valley. After serving in the Royal Marines and working as a celebrity bodyguard, I returned to my Welsh roots with a vision of putting North Wales on the adventure map. That’s how Zip World was born. We started with the world’s fastest zip line, Velocity, and expanded from there, now operating seven sites across Wales and England.

Q: What adventures can visitors experience at Zip World’s sites in North Wales?

A: At Zip World, we offer a range of exhilarating adventures across our four sites in North Wales. From the Velocity zip line to multi-level soft play for toddlers, there’s something for everyone. Our adventures also extend underground, with experiences like Bounce Below in former slate mines, and we even have weather-proof adventures in the stunning Llechwedd Caverns.

Q: Where are Zip World’s adventure sites located in North Wales?

A: We’re proud that each of our sites are situated amidst the breathtaking landscapes of North Wales. Zip World Penrhyn Quarry and Llechwedd are nestled within former slate mines, offering stunning views of the Eryri mountain ranges. Zip World Betws-y-Coed is located in an ancient Welsh woodland in the heart of Conwy Valley, while Zip World Conwy boasts magnificent views of the Coed Dolgarrog Nature Reserve.

Q: How do Zip World’s locations in North Wales integrate with the natural surroundings?

A: Our Zip World sites are all designed and built to preserve and regenerate areas. Post-industrious areas such as our Penrhyn Quarry and Llechwedd sites would be left abandoned, if not regenerated in some way. We work sympathetically with the landscape, creating adventures and experiences with minimal impact on the surroundings. This means using the natural resources of the surrounding area to further blend in. The heritage and history are especially important to us and are carefully considered to remain a focal point of each site.

Q: What makes North Wales a unique destination for adventure enthusiasts?

A: North Wales offers a unique blend of stunning natural landscapes and thrilling adventure opportunities, making it perfect for families seeking excitement and immersion in nature. North Wales is a dynamic landscape, and we are lucky to have both the sea and the mountains on our doorstep. This creates a diverse selection of adventure-based activities to entice people to the area. There are certain things you can only experience here in North Wales and that is what makes it so special.
