The hottest spots to hang onto the summer
We firmly believe that there’s nowhere better than North Wales in September. Summer is hanging on – the crowds have gone but the days are still long and stretch into warm and hazy evenings. It’s the perfect time for couples looking to snatch a final long weekend in the warmth or families with young children to enjoy a week of peace and beat the hordes of school holidaymakers.
But after a day of frolicking in the sea, discovering the coast or ambling in the mountains – where is the best place to fuel up before a night in front of the fire pit? We’ve rounded up our favourite foodie recommendations for hanging onto the final flourishes of summer.
Pete’s Eats, Llanberis
This Llanberis institution has finally reopened after being taken on by new owners and we couldn’t be happier. Historically a hotspot for climbers and known for serving pints of tea back in the day, it is now a thriving community hub. Pete’s Eats serves up simple, seasonal grub with calming views of Llyn Padarn (oh and pints of tea are still on the menu).
The food is simple, seasonal, and sourced locally. From a hearty full Welsh breakfast to brisket tacos, burgers and loaded fries, this is hearty, soul food made for walking. Whether you’re fuelling up for a climb up Yr Wyddfa or looking for a cold beer after scrambling Glyder Fawr, this is the place to come.

Dreamboat
Keep your eyes peeled for this iconic, vintage 406d Mercedes if you’re out and about in North Wales this summer. After lovingly restoring it into a food truck with their own fair hands, Mike and Linda hit the road dishing up fresh coffee, cooling cocktails and vibrant food all over the region.
Do not miss their pizza pop-up in August. The couple will be parking up on Porth Tyn Tywyn and serving up authentic sourdough pizzas, fresh salads and a selection of homemade puds. Now tell us this isn’t the perfect way to watch the sun go down?

Feast Brothers, Holyhead
Soak in views of the old harbour while enjoying a little taste of Sardinia. What started as a humble food trailer, serving up fresh pasta to hungry swimmers on the beaches of North Wales has grown and Feast Brothers have now opened up shop in Holyhead.
The menu is small, but wow does it pack a punch. Best known for their cacio e pepe which is served up from a wheel of cheese, the founder friends have catered to everyone and even have a dedicated kids’ menu on offer.
Order your pasta and find a sunny bench to enjoy it on!

Harbourfront Bistro, Holyhead
You’d be forgiven for thinking this is a beach bar in the Bahamas but take a closer look and you might recognise the beautiful Newry Beach.

This is Harbourfront Bistro – a stunning spot for enjoying the last days of sunshine and a sunset or two. If you’re looking for waterside dining, you don’t get much closer to the water than this. Grab a seat on the terrace and enjoy the sound of the waves lapping at the deck and unbeatable views of beautiful Newry beach.
What’s on the menu? Fresh seafood of course! From classics like fish and chips and crab salad to fish tacos and a Bermuda fish chowder.
The Jackdaw, Conwy
We’ve saved the fanciest recommendation until last. If you love a tasting menu, then this is the place for you, and it’s even been named in the Michelin Guide.
Run by Nick Rudge, a chef who trained at Heston’s the Fat Duck, which should give you some idea of what the food is like, The Jackdaw is a contemporary restaurant with just the right amount of fancy. The menu is very much a love letter to Wales and is a seasonal 9-course tasting menu. Whether you go for lunch or dinner, walk off your courses with a stroll along Conwy quay!
