The perfect walker's holiday cottage

For those looking for a true Bolthole, Cae Mab Dafydd will tick lots of boxes. Tucked away, on the edge of the coastal village of Llanfairfechan, this quiet period property comes with access to 50 acres of private native woodland. A perfect holiday cottage for walkers, mountain bike enthusiasts, and those looking for a peaceful, restorative break.

Llanfairfechan, where the Carneddau mountains and the coast meet, is perhaps one of North Wales’s best-kept secrets. This quiet seaside village is popular with hill and coastal walkers, mountain bikers, water sports enthusiasts and bird watchers.

You will be spoilt for choices of things to do – from here, you can be heading up into the foothills of the Carneddau mountains or walking along Llanfairfechan’s beautiful sandy beach within minutes. And in the car, a 30-minute radius takes you up into the verdant Conwy Valley, which is home to Bodnant Garden, to the historic town of Conwy with its iconic medieval castle and town walls, over to Llanberis at the foot of Snowdon and Anglesey with its beautiful coastline and beaches.

A former estate worker’s cottage, built around 1870, this is a beautiful property surrounded by its own private grounds and off the beaten track. Turn off a country lane onto a gravelled driveway that peters out into the surrounding woodland, park up and breathe.

Sleeping two or three guests, this well-appointed, welcoming holiday Hideaway has two bedrooms and bathrooms, two comfortable sitting rooms and a well-equipped kitchen. A sheltered balcony offers rural views across lush farmland toward the sea, and a garden table and chairs to the front of the cottage offer the promise of alfresco breakfasts serenaded by chattering birdsong and a prospect of quiet evening drinks as the sun sets behind the trees. Listen to bird song, a rustle of leaves and the splash of water tumbling along in the nearby stream.

This is a rural Bolthole where you will enjoy complete seclusion and restorative peace even at the height of summer. While staying here, you have access to 50 acres of enchanting private woodland rich with native trees and wildflowers and teeming with wildlife.

Explore to your heart’s content, rambling along forest paths, soft underfoot. Discover the estate’s reservoir, hidden away behind the cottage. Happen across the ruins of a thought-to-be medieval watch tower, still stand sentinel over a vista that stretches out over the Menai Strait, now obscured by trees. Climb to the top of the woods, where you will be rewarded with stunning views across farmland towards the coast and across to Anglesey; you can see the historic buildings of Beaumaris glistening in the sunshine on a clear day.

Situated on the outskirts of Llanfairfechan between Conwy and Bangor, Cae Mab Dafydd is within easy reach of two grocery stores, a Post Office, a John Williams & Son Butchers, Nood Food – a zero-waste shop, several cafes and The Seagrass, a friendly beachfront bistro. If you’re thinking of eating out, the Seagrass is usually open on Friday and Saturday evenings, there’s Jonny Dough’s in nearby Penmaenmawr, The Slate in Tal y Bont and a good choice of restaurants in the towns of Conwy, Menai Bridge and Bangor, all a short drive away.

Just an hour’s drive from Chester along the A55, this is a Hideaway that will surprise and delight you. We think that you’re likely to want to return again and again!

Cae Mab Dafydd sleeps up to three guests in two bedrooms. This is a pet-free property. Available for stays between March and November. Book online through our website or call 01248 546100.
