3 summery suntraps on the Llŷn Peninsula

A picturesque drive along North Wales’s dramatic coastline will take you to a treasure trove of special nooks on the Llŷn Peninsula. With a unique micro-climate, the landscape is wild but the weather is mild, offering an otherworldly backdrop of blues, greens, and sunset golds to getaways large and small.

We’re spotlighting three boltholes in this gorgeous part of the world, each with an incredibly special spot to soak up the sun – from beaches to gardens to balconies!

Hen Dafarn – Nefyn’s beachfront gem

Imagine stepping out your door, taking in a deep breath of fresh, sea air and immediately feeling the warm sand between your toes.

Hen Dafarn (which translates to ‘The Old Tavern’) is an enchanting, historic conversion, less than a stone’s throw from the beach. Look out the window and the sun, sea, and sand are quite literally on your doorstep!

Surrounded by candy-coloured beach huts and an excellent little café, the village of Nefyn is a fun-loving, slow-living paradise. Enjoy regular live music nights on the next beach a breathtaking coastal walk away, courtesy of Tŷ Coch, a local beachfront pub. After a day well spent exploring, find solace on your beachfront patio and simply watch the world go by.

To catch a glimpse of the bigger coastal picture on a gloriously sunny day, a short (but steep) walk up to the headland will take you to Nefyn’s famous golf course, with incomparable views over Porth Nefyn and the Irish Sea.

The historic North Wales Pilgrim’s Way also makes its way along the beachfront at Nefyn. A sacred route that has bewitched travellers with its natural beauty for thousands of years, the Pilgrim’s Way ends in Aberdaron, only a 30-minute drive from Hen Dafarn (or a five hour walk if you want to follow in the pilgrim’s footsteps!).

Plas Bodegroes – a Llŷn Peninsula showstopper

A grade II listed house, Plas Bodegroes is a truly unmatched venue for large parties and gatherings. Midsummer is when this space truly shines.

The sunflowers among you will have no shortage of spots to turn your faces to, with five acres of formal gardens and vast lawns equipped with enough loungers for all – ideal for sunbathing.

Labyrinthine pathways throughout the grounds lead you to suntraps galore, whether you’re looking for company or a bit of quiet contemplation.

Tremfan Gorwel – al fresco dining at its best

Tremfan Gorwel is a boutique apartment for four based in Tremfan Hall, perched on top of the bar and restaurant run by Nigel Skinner.

The standout feature of this bolthole is an enviably large balcony and terrace with exceptional sea views, perfectly equipped for soaking in the afternoon sun followed by sharing an unforgettable meal evening outdoors.

With stunning vistas over Ceredigion Bay, there’s nowhere better placed for an evening dining al fresco. The restaurant features a large outdoor seating area which stretches out beneath your terrace, or you can even order meals from downstairs to be delivered right to you! There’s also a fully stocked kitchen if you’re raring to cook for yourselves with the abundance of exceptional local produce from the Llŷn Peninsula.
